How Interlock NZ works

Interlock NZ helps people with disabilities connect with peers and the wider community.

Each term has cooking, craft, sewing and construction opportunities that members can take part in. Or they can read, play on their phones or sit and connect with friends.

Members choose an activity to take part in or relax with friends. If the activities are too challenging, we have many volunteers in orange hats who can guide and assist.

Sessions:

MONDAY: Volunteers - 9:30am to 11:30am

TUESDAY: Skills Group - 9:30am to 11:30am

WEDNESDAY: Community Connection Cafe - 9:30am to 11:30am

FRIDAY: Activity -  9.30am to 11:45am

Currently, the activity groups are around 30 to 35 people of mixed abilities from across the Waipā and Waikato area and all services.

Volunteers run all our activities in partnership with support workers or family members.

Participant numbers vary for each activity as people choose to be involved. Café morning is very casual and often short-focused, while Craft days can be up to 50 participants over the morning.

Monday is for Volunteers who want extra training and to prepare for the crafts at the end of the week.

Tuesday is set aside for small crafting groups of up to 6 people who want to learn new skills or hone old ones in specific areas.

Wednesday Community Cafe is a smaller group that comes and goes during the morning. The focus is on connection rather than crafts.

Friday group is our largest gathering of the week with much resourcing and variety. Being our most popular day we often end up with 60+ people including volunteers and Support workers.
